Deseret Singles is operated by Deseret Singles LLC, an Arizona limited liability company ("Deseret Singles," "we," "our," or "us"). Deseret Singles is a dating and social app for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our app and our website.
By creating an account or using Deseret Singles, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Account & Profile Information: When you register, we collect your name, username, email address, password, gender, date of birth, and the profile details you choose to share (photos, bio, interests, location, height, weight, occupation, and other optional fields).
Photos & Media: Photos you upload to your profile or album are stored on our servers. You may optionally record a short voice introduction.
Location: When you create your account we collect your ZIP code (required) and convert it to approximate map coordinates so we can match you with members by distance; we keep your ZIP code and these coarse coordinates with your profile, along with your city and state (which you may edit). In our mobile apps this ZIP lookup is performed on your device; on the web it is performed by a third-party postal-code service (see "Sharing of Your Information"). With your permission, we also collect your device's location, which may be precise, and store it with your profile. We use it to show nearby members and events, and to check whether a profile's stated city and state match where the account is actually being used — one of the ways we detect fraudulent accounts. Other members are never shown your coordinates; they see only the city and state on your profile. You may disable device location access in your device settings at any time.
Messages: The content of messages you send to other members — both in 1-on-1 chats and in community rooms — is stored to deliver those messages, is automatically screened for safety (see "Automated Content Moderation" below), and may be translated into other members' languages (see "Live Message Translation" below).
Photo Verification Data: If you choose to verify your profile, we guide you through a short, live face scan. A brief video of your face is processed by automated facial-analysis technology to confirm you are a real, live person (not a photo) and that you match your profile photos. This involves facial-geometry measurements (a form of biometric data) used only to perform the verification (see "Photo Verification & Biometric Data" below). We ask for your explicit consent before the first scan.
SafeDate™ Information: If you activate SafeDate™ before meeting someone, we collect the trusted contact you designate, your check-in window, the meeting location you provide, and who you told us you are meeting — the name you enter or select, and, when that person is a Deseret Singles member you chose from search, a reference to their profile so an alert can identify them accurately. You may always simply type a name instead, including for someone who is not a member — and, only if you miss your check-in, your last known location at that time (see "SafeDate™ Location Sharing" below). You can also operate SafeDate™ hands-free with Siri or a Shortcuts action (such as the Action button or Back Tap); the voice request is processed by Apple's Siri, and the information shared with your trusted contact is the same as a manual alert.
Events: If you submit an in-person event, we store the details you provide (title, type, date and time, venue, city, state, ZIP code, and description) along with your account as the organizer. The ZIP code is converted to approximate map coordinates so events can be shown to members by distance. Event submissions are automatically screened before they appear to others (see "Automated Content Moderation" below). When you RSVP to an event, your name and profile photo appear on that event's “Who's Going” list, which any member who can see the event can view. You can turn this off with the “Show me on event guest lists” setting in Profile › Settings, which keeps you off the list; the number of people attending is still shown, and event organizers and administrators can still see the full list.
Usage Data: We may collect information about how you interact with the app (e.g., features used, screens visited) to improve the experience.
Device Information: We may collect your device type, operating system version, and app version for diagnostics and support. When you sign up we also record a random identifier created for that installation of the app — or, if you sign up in a web browser, for that browser — so we can tell how many different people ran into a problem rather than how many times it happened. We generate it ourselves; it is not your device's identifier and not an advertising identifier, cannot be linked to you or to anything outside Deseret Singles, and is erased when you delete the app or clear your browser's site data.
• Provide and operate the app, including matching, messaging, and event features.
• Verify your identity and prevent fraud.
• Send account-related emails (verification, password reset, notifications).
• Display your profile to other members based on your preferences.
• If optional paid subscriptions are introduced in the future, process those payments via Apple's in-app purchase system (the app is currently free).
• Respond to support requests and enforce our Terms of Service.
• Keep the community safe by automatically screening messages against our community standards and reviewing content that is flagged.
• Translate messages into your preferred language so members can connect across languages.
• Confirm member identity through live face verification. Verification is required before sending a first message for accounts created on or after August 15, 2026; for earlier accounts it is optional.
• Operate SafeDate™ check-ins and, if you miss a check-in, alert the trusted contact you designated.
• Improve the app through aggregated, anonymized analytics.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We share information only as necessary to operate the service:
Supabase (supabase.com): Provides our database and authentication infrastructure. Your profile and message data is stored on Supabase servers.
Resend (resend.com): Powers transactional emails such as verification codes and password resets.
Twilio (twilio.com): Sends SafeDate™ safety-alert text messages to the trusted contact you designate, when you provide their phone number.
Anthropic (anthropic.com): Powers automated content moderation and live translation. The text of messages you send, the name and description of any community room you create, the captions you write on your photos, and the free-text fields of your profile are processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to check them against our community standards and to translate text into another member's language. Anthropic does not use this content to train its models.
Amazon Web Services (aws.amazon.com): If you use photo verification, a short live video of your face is processed by Amazon Rekognition Face Liveness to confirm you are a real, live person, and a frame from that video is compared against your profile photo to confirm they depict the same person. This is used only to grant or deny a verification badge.
Apple Inc.: If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple confirms your identity to us and, if you ask it to, gives us a private relay address instead of your own so we never see your real one. Push notifications are delivered through the Apple Push Notification service, which receives the notification text and a token identifying your device. Separately, if in-app purchases or subscriptions are introduced in the future, billing would be handled by Apple's StoreKit framework; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
Zippopotam.us (zippopotam.us): On the web only, we send the ZIP code you enter at signup to this postal-code service to look up the matching city, state, and approximate map coordinates for distance matching. Only your ZIP code is sent; no other personal information is shared.
Google (google.com): If you miss a SafeDate™ check-in, we render a small map image of your last known location using the Google Maps Static API so your trusted contact can see where you were; your coordinates are sent to Google to produce that image. Google also serves the web fonts used on our website and in our emails, which means Google receives the IP address of the device loading them.
Vercel (vercel.com): Hosts our website and member web app, and therefore processes the network requests your browser makes to them.
Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or is necessary to prevent fraud, as described below.
Paused accounts: if you pause your account instead of deleting it, your data is retained (but hidden from other members) until you resume or delete your account.
After permanent deletion, we may retain your first name and email address to send you a limited number of invitations to return. Every such email includes a one-tap opt-out, and you can request immediate removal at any time. We also keep a de-identified record of the deletion itself — the date and, if you chose to give one, the reason and any note you wrote — so we can understand why members leave. That record is stripped of anything identifying you 30 days after deletion.
Messages you have sent. Messages you sent to another member remain visible to that member after you delete your account, in the same way an email you have sent stays in the recipient's inbox. Their copy of the conversation is their own record and we do not remove it. Your name and photo are taken off it and your profile can no longer be opened. Messages may also be retained briefly to complete delivery and ensure system integrity.
Accounts removed for fraud. If we remove an account for fraud, scam activity or impersonation, we keep a record of it — including the username, the email address, the IP addresses it signed in from, and samples of the messages it sent — for as long as we need it to stop the same person returning under a new name. We use this record only to protect our members. We do not use it for marketing and we do not sell it.
Access & Correction: You can view and update your profile information at any time within the app.
Account Deletion: You may delete your account from the Profile > Settings section. This removes your profile and associated data. When you delete your account we ask why you're leaving (you can choose "Prefer not to say") and may send you a single follow-up email based on your answer, with a link to restore your account during the 30-day window; any note you include is read by our team.
Account Pause: You may pause your account instead of deleting it. While paused, your profile is hidden from all other members and no data is deleted; sign back in and tap Resume to reactivate it.
Event Guest Lists: Your name appears on the “Who's Going” list of any event you RSVP to. Turn off “Show me on event guest lists” in Profile › Settings to keep your name off those lists.
Location: You can revoke location access in your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services at any time.
Push Notifications: You can disable push notifications in your device settings.
Data Requests: To request a copy of your data or to ask questions about your information, contact us at hello@deseretsingles.com.
Deseret Singles is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will delete their account promptly.
We use industry-standard security measures, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) and secure cloud storage provided by Supabase. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to keep your account credentials private.
To keep Deseret Singles a safe, respectful community, the things you write — messages in 1-on-1 chats and community rooms, the captions on your photos, and the free-text parts of your profile — are automatically screened by an AI safety system (Anthropic's Claude). In addition, messages are automatically checked — without AI — for contact details and requests to move a conversation off the platform (phone numbers, email addresses, messaging-app handles). What happens next depends on the conversation: in an established two-way conversation the message is delivered normally and we post a one-time safety note into the thread reminding both members how romance scams typically begin; in a brand-new or one-sided conversation, or in a public community room, the message is held and not delivered, and the sender is shown an honest explanation. A held message is retained for review by our moderation team. Holding a message never counts against your account, and members responding to someone else's request are never penalized.
The system checks each message against our community standards (for example: sexual content, profanity, harassment, hate, threats, self-harm, off-platform solicitation, spam, and anything endangering a minor). Messages that violate these standards may be automatically hidden and placed in a queue for review by our moderation team.
Human review when something is flagged or reported. Our automated checks are not the only safeguard. If an account or a message is flagged by the safety system or reported by another member, a member of our safety team may read the messages that account has sent, together with the surrounding messages needed to understand them, in order to investigate. This means that if someone you are talking to is reported or flagged, your messages in that conversation may be read as part of that review. We look only at what is needed to judge the report — we do not browse members' private conversations otherwise — and what we find is used only to enforce our Terms of Service and keep members safe.
This screening sends that text to Anthropic solely to perform the safety check. Anthropic does not use this content to train its models. An item the system flags is recorded for review by our team and may count toward a strike against your account, so that repeated violations can be acted on.
Event listings you submit are screened the same way: their title and description are checked by the AI safety system against our event guidelines before they appear to other members, and listings that don't meet those guidelines are automatically hidden.
If your message or event is removed, you may be shown a notice. Repeated or severe violations may result in warnings, temporary restrictions, or removal from the app.
So members who speak different languages can connect, messages in 1-on-1 chats and community rooms can be shown to each reader in their own app language. To do this, the text of a message is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI for translation, and the translated text is cached so it does not need to be translated again.
Only message text is translated, and Anthropic does not use this content to train its models. You can always view any message in its original language. Translation is provided for convenience and may not be perfectly accurate.
Profile verification is a short, live face scan, and it requires your explicit consent before the first scan. For accounts created on or after August 15, 2026, verification is required before you send your first message (direct message or community-room message) — browsing, matching, liking, and editing your profile work without it. For accounts created earlier, verification is optional. A brief video of your face is processed by Amazon Rekognition Face Liveness to confirm you are a real, live person — not a photo or recording. A single frame captured from that live video is then compared against your profile photo using Amazon Rekognition to confirm you are the same person. These steps generate facial-geometry measurements — a form of biometric data — used solely to perform that verification.
We use this only to grant or deny a verification badge. We do not use your face scan or biometric data for advertising, and we do not sell it. The face scan is processed privately and is never shown on your profile or to other members. We retain verification images and audit data only as long as needed to operate and secure verification, and you may ask us to delete your verification data at any time by contacting support. If you decline verification on an account created on or after August 15, 2026, you can still browse, match, like, and edit your profile — but you cannot send messages until you verify. On earlier accounts, declining changes nothing.
If the automated check cannot confirm your scan, a single frame from it is kept in private storage so a member of our team can review the result by hand. That frame is deleted as soon as the review is decided, whether it is approved or rejected. A scan that passes automatically stores no image at all.
SafeDate™ is an optional safety feature. When you activate it before meeting someone, you choose a trusted contact, a check-in time, and the meeting location. If you check in on time, nothing is shared.
If you do not check in by your chosen time, we automatically notify the trusted contact you designated — by email (via Resend), by text message when you provide their phone number (via Twilio), and, if that contact also uses Deseret Singles, by a notification in the app. That alert tells them your first name, that you have missed a SafeDate™ check-in, the meeting details you entered, and your last known location, including a map image of it rendered by Google. If you recorded who you were meeting, the alert names that person's first name and whether their profile is verified, so your contact knows who to ask after.
Some members are Brand Ambassadors and have their own referral code. If you sign up using an ambassador's code, your account is linked to that ambassador so we can track referrals.
An ambassador can see, for each person who joined with their code: their name, username, when they joined, and whether they have completed photo verification. Ambassadors do not see your email address or any other contact information.
If you have not yet completed photo verification, the ambassador who referred you may request a one-time reminder email. We send that email directly; your email address is never shared with the ambassador, and reminders are rate-limited to protect you from repeated messages.
Ambassadors may receive compensation based on verified referrals. See our Terms of Service for details.
You can use our website without an account, and most of it collects nothing about you.
The waitlist: if you submit your email address to be told when something launches, we store that address and use it to send you a small number of emails about Deseret Singles. Every one of them has a one-tap opt-out, and you can ask us to delete the address at any time.
Aggregate analytics: we record which page was viewed and which site referred you, so we can see which pages are useful. We do not set advertising cookies, we do not build a profile of you, and we do not retain your IP address alongside those records.
The web fonts on our pages are served by Google, which means Google receives the IP address of the device loading them. See "Sharing of Your Information" above.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
The current version is always available within the app under Profile > Privacy Policy.
This Privacy Policy was written in English. We may provide translations into other languages for your convenience. The English-language version is the official, controlling version. In the event of any conflict or inconsistency between the English version and a translated version, the English version governs.
